turning 90 | Upper Ottawa Valley event photographer

OTTAWA VALLEY EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER – Turning 20 is a big deal. Turning 40 is another milestone event. But imagine turning 90?? Now that’s something not everyone gets to experience. If you’re fortunate to be the matriarch a great family like this one, there’s no way they will let it slide by without a real celebration.

The birthday girl was only expecting a quiet dinner with just her two children, their spouses and a dear friend. However, behind the scenes you can be sure that everyone was scheming to make it a memorable event. Part of the surprise plan was to have the all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren travel from Toronto and south of Ottawa to Deep River for the festivities. All four generations in one place over the Thanksgiving weekend.

They also made sure to include Olga’s brother who couldn’t make the trip in person – they had him set up to chat with his sister on Skype. A Skyping great-granny, it really doesn’t get much cooler than that.

The other surprise was that Olga’s granddaughters contacted me to document the whole evening. They wanted photographs partly as a gift to their beloved grandma, and partly because they wanted just to be in the moment. It was important that they be able to enjoy the mini-family reunion during their limited time together without worrying about taking their own pictures.

A few minutes after Olga walked into the lobby, it was evident that the effort to organize a birthday party (with a scrumptious homemade birthday cake) was well-deserved. This young lady is a firecracker who should let us all in on her secrets to raising a thoughtful, loving, very warm family. Cheers to many more years of special celebrations together!

Vacationing in Calabogie

I had the pleasure of meeting up with a Southern Ontario family who wanted to capture bit of their time with grandparents and new baby girl at one of their favourite places.  They make their way to the Ottawa Valley each spring and fall to stay on Calabogie Lake and watch their daughters get loved up by Grandma and Grandpa, who live in Ottawa. Since vacationing in Calabogie is such a special time for everyone, it was also an ideal time to make some memorable photographs.

On the eve of their last day of no work, no school and no chores we got to hang out by the water’s edge and enjoy the warm October day.  The girls had a blast playing in the leaves, on the rocks and someone showed off her elegant dance moves as the sun began to peek out from behind the cloud-filled sky.

An Autumn Engagement Session near Arnprior

I’m done with all of this snow and now freezing rain, how about you? It’s been especially hard to get back to embracing winter after a week on a tropical beach with +30 degrees of glorious heat every day. So I’m planning on staying in, keeping warm and sharing oodles of beautiful sessions that have been living on my computer for far too long. It will help all of us look forward to the day when we can ditch the snow pants and big boots!

This wonderful couple contacted me just before Thanksgiving to arrange a special engagement session that would include their incredibly handsome little boy. We planned for a morning at their home outside of the Village of White Lake, as the bride-to-be wanted to have her tranquil wooded backyard as the backdrop for their photographs.  Judging by the laughs, these two are destined for a very long, happy marriage!  Everyone attending Kate + Kelly’s wedding will get to see these photos and many more featured in their Guest Book, which I am currently designing.  It is great to own the digital files, but it’s even better when my clients have special keepsakes created out of their professional photographs!

This is just a taste of what I’m working on for the next few days and I don’t want to brag, but it has been a very enjoyable couple of weeks at “the office.”  This incredible setting along the Mayan Riviera couldn’t have been more perfect for the long awaited nuptials of my brother and his stunning bride.   It’s no secret that this kid has had it bad for my new sister-in-law for many, many years … I wonder why???  All biases aside, I don’t think I have ever seen a more gorgeous couple!!  There will be plenty more to share, but for now, here’s a sneak peek of for the newlyweds who are returning home from their extended vacation today.  Love you both so much!
